Happy hump day! We've got some cool tricks for your Facebook efforts and a magnificent post about writing copy like Cambridge Analytica. E-commerce and crypto top it off nicely!

One Simple Trick To Fool The Facebook Text Overlay Tool

If you’ve ever ran a Facebook campaign you’ve probably dealt with the issue that your image ads (or thumbnails) can only contain a maximum of 25% text.

Phil K. James posted a nice workaround in Tim Burd’s "Facebook Ad Buyers" group.

All you need to do is to use a dot based font since Facebook’s Text Overlay tool apparently doesn’t recognize these fonts as text.

We’ll keep an eye out if Facebook makes it a priority to change things and this tip doesn’t work anymore.

Other workarounds people have discussed in the comments include a low contrast between the background and the text, and text positioning - the tool still uses a grid, so repositioning means text shows up in fewer grids which then means the tool thinks there’s less text.

Paid Traffic Dominates - Is there still room for organic reach?

Jakub Szrodt has a case study he posted on Medium where he shows that there is. He worked with a company to create a Facebook giveaway. Results?

The post reached 250k+ people in less than 48h, increased website visits 1000% and sales 100%. With $0 budget..

The post simply drew attention by talking to pregnant women, mentioning a little gift and inviting them manifest themselves in the comments. Then they will get sent to all the information in private (through a messenger bot).

There was also a call for friends of pregnant women to let them know about this gift.

Important: It said "manifest themselves" not just a lame comment "I want it" or similar. This spoke much more to their audience.

The key takeaways:
  • Stop being selling so hard. Stop with the "tag someone, comment, share and like us" promotions.
  • Talk to your audience like a human being, not like to a customer. People realize when they’re getting sold to - this is where "gift" after "manifesting" themselves comes into play.
  • Make interactions fun!
  • Know your audience and how to approach them. Know what value you can bing them. Or, in other words - what is in it for them? It’s not easy but once it clicks, this really puts it all together.

What was the gift? $10 off for each $50 purchase. Just a normal discount.

Giveaways are certainly a good way to get engagement and traffic but all too often they are structured in a way where the quality of the leads is very poor.

How To Write Copy Like Cambridge Analytica

In this amazing post in the "Purple Knowledge Lab Group", Sebastian Weinhold tells you which angle to use for different parts of your audience. Even if all you know is the age and gender!

Sebastian studied lots of academic articles and figured out age and sex differences when it comes to the Big Five Personality Traits: O.C.E.A.N. Openness, extraversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness, neuroticism.

People of course have varying degrees of these personality traits. But there are correlations between them with age.

While conscientiousness rises over the years, traits like openness, agreeableness and extraversion decline when people get older.

You should really check out the full post, and you can even ask Sebastian your questions on the topic. The detailed breakdown is a must read for any copywriter!

The Fight For The Indian Market

With the number of internet users reaching over 500 million in 2018, India is one of the most important e-commerce markets in the world.

The two gigantic corporations Amazon and Walmart both want to make sure to not miss out on that.

While Amazon has pledged to deploy more than $5 billion to grow its business in India, having added "more Prime members in India in its first year than any previous geography in Amazon’s history", Walmart is poised to acquire 60-80 percent of Flipkart for $12 billion.

So it looks like a main battle between Amazon and Walmart-Flipkart if things go as they are reported.

New Shopify Feature - Instagram Sales Channel

What is this you ask?

"Sell your products on Instagram by tagging them when they appear in your Instagram posts. Customers who find your tagged products on Instagram can tap a link to view and buy a product in your online store."

There are a few requirements for your products that Facebook has in order to use this feature but they all sound quite reasonable. Just check the instructions from Shopify right here!

Goldman Sachs Is Heading To The Moon!

… crypto Moon that is.

They’ve hired Crypto Trader Justin Schmidt as head of digital asset markets to help clients gain exposure to cryptocurrencies.

In other words, Goldman sees an opportunity in the FOMO, so why not try to collect a hefty commission by making their clients buy crypto?

Who is Justin? Your typical 38 year old Wall Street trader that went into crypto. Our thorough research (a Google and LinkedIn search) didn’t show any Wolf of Wall Street qualities, which means no reference to the movie… Next time!

But we do have a leak from GS - Justin’s first chart analysis. Trade accordingly!
